tbh i feel that you have to be a total idiot to fall for one of these scams.
OMG this is exactly what happened to my family member! All because of a Google search with a wrong number for the airline. We're worried if those scammers did something with the personal info in the reservation, especially the passport numbers. There's so much that's accessible with just the flight confirmation number.
Did anyone get refund from banks ?

I got caught by this scam. My flight was running late and since I wouldn't be arriving at the next airport in time to check in with a different airline for an international flight, I wanted to make sure I was checked in before leaving and online check in wasn't working. I was stressed about not making it to the destination, and just wanted everything set up before contact was cut off on the flight so I made a call – to the number Google fed me since I couldn't find one on the airline website.
I was told I couldn't check in because I hadn't paid my full balance, and I would need to pay that on the phone or at the airport – and because of the time crunch I opted to pay it on the phone. After I thought everything was settled, I realized by looking at the email they wanted me to respond to with permission to run my card that I was speaking with a "travel agency" not the airline. Luckily, responding to that email immediately withdrawing my permission and explaining I thought I was talking to the airline not a travel agency solved the problem and kept me from loosing that money.
I thought this scam was particularly cruel, it took advantage of me being in a rush, and in a situation that was stressful. I think they refunded/never withdrew the money because with the email chain I created it made it apparent that it was a scam and they had misrepresented themselves (the opposite of why they wanted an email chain in the first place). I like to think I'm savvy about scams and know how to avoid them, but this one caught me completely off guard. Thank you for bringing more attention to it!
