  1. Ty soo much for your channel!@ However,I took your tips and still ended up paying $2500 e round trip to italy??? HOW IN THE WORLD are you affording to take 40 trips in 6 months???? I'm missing SOMETHING!? Can I email you for brief questions, please?? I'm so FRUSTRATED!😢 TIA for ANY help.

  2. Very good and informative video. Thumbs up. BTW, not sure if it's accurate or not but you show flying out of Fayetteville (XNA) as an example. We live on Table Rock Lake and use XNA as our primary airport. Excellent.

  3. Some good advice, but I have to disagree with booking direct. The only thing that it brings is cancellations or moving the flight. If you have your schedule locked down – I go to Europe for all over Nov. or Feb. – then booking direct is the more expensive way to go. Usually by far, like twice as much. I'm out of TO so I usually fly Aer Lingus as the layover in Dublin is a nice break. Google Flights from TO to Barcelona Feb 1 – $551. Same flight directly through Aer Lingus – $878. Unless I get sick or injured, I'm going. And if not, that's what travel insurance is for. A good source for cheap flights is a sight called Student Universe – not just for students. One good thing about their site is you see immediately whether baggage is included or not and the price if it isn't. I wish Google Flights would include that in their search, checked not just a carry-on. All those budget airlines suck when you realize that cheap flight costs just as much as a good airline when you add on all the extra fees. I'll only ever take discount flights in the US or in Europe when it's a short hop. I still prefer trains in Europe anyway. Thanks Nik.

  4. The whole point of using Google Flights, Expedia, etc, is to find cheap flights, that's the point of this video, and then you suggest to buy direct through the airline, the same as the Points guy, you go through all the trouble to find a cheap flight, but if you want the points on the card you went to all the problem to get and maybe even paid an annual fee for, you must book through the airlines direct. It happens, but it's rare, generally the cheaper flights, by far are booked through booking apps, their are clubs you can join, but if you limit your search to just the airline direct, be prepared to pay a lot more than you should, I hope those points are worth it, generally not…

  5. Hum… Rarely is 'when' you fly negotiable, maybe plus or minus a day, if you don't mind shortening your trip. Generally being flexible doesn't lengthen your trip, unless you are retired and don't work. Most people travel around a holiday, or state day off, or scheduled time off from work. And then they have a place in mind, family or a place they have always wanted to go, etc. Sure you could be open on new things and places every once in a while, after you've been to your dream spots and visited family.

It's nice that you can travel when ever you want and for how ever long you want, most of us don't have that luxury. Apparently the cost to stay there doesn't play into it either? This seems just for retirees, but you don't seem that old, so wealthy and traveling the world, good for you, but your advise don't help most people traveling.

  6. Ok, everyone says "be flexible with your travel dates" to get the best air faires, well what if (Like me as a nurse) don't have flexibility and has to request off months in advance for a vacation, are there tips for great air faires for us everyday schleps who can't plan off the cuff? Thanks, I don't mean to be rude, but after watching so many videos with the same advice, I would like some more reality for so many of us that don't have the option/luxery of being so flexible in vacation traveling. I chose you to address this because your seem very personable and relatable. This is my first every comment on you tube. ( sorry you get the question.) I have tried some cheap flight avenues but they are usually for those "flexible" time frames.

  7. Whoa whoa whoa – are y'all based out of NWA?! I'm in Fayetteville and about to begin my own sabbatical!

I'd love to pick your brains sometime – beers on me, ofc!

  8. lol, i do a hybrid of this. Im like man i wanna go to ____ so i search flight from around me to around there and look at the month prices/ date grid then i look for hotels in that time to make sure the savings on the flight isnt outweighed by the cost of my stay.

  9. I would like to add a tip that I just learned. It goes along with searching multiple airports, sometimes more than a few hours away. For example when flying to Asia from Detroit, it may be cheaper to fly round trip to Chicago and then round trip from Chicago to Asia on the same airline. This saved me 1200.00. For close by airports it saved me 600.00 and the first flight was to Detroit and then the same flights I would have had flying from Detroit.

  10. At the end of last year, my wife and I received a limited time deal from a favorite hotel in Victoria, BC for any booking in 2023. We wanted to travel towards the end of the year, but apparently Alaska Airlines allows you to book only 11 months in advance.

In the past, I've only searched for roundtrip flights (except for one trip where we needed to stay in two different cities), but I monitored the Alaska website as our preferred departure date became available. I ended up booking each way separately, because when I was finally allowed to book the departing flight(s), one possible date listed the upgrade from the regular fare to first class as a mere $45. That upgrade includes two checked bags (2 x $30, although we'll only check one apiece), early boarding, more legroom, a beverage (including alcohol), and a snack (selected in advance). We won't be coming back first class though: when the corresponding date became available, the difference was around $200.

I'm not sure how unusual that dirt-cheap, first-day-available upgrade is on Alaska, or whether other airlines do anything similar. But if you're dates are flexible — or your hotel is willing to shift your booking by a couple of days as ours was — you might find a great one-way upgrade to business or first class that you wouldn't see by waiting until both legs are available and checking roundtrip fares only.
