Other Reasons You Will Want to Try Google Flights:
Google Flights is a powerful tool for finding and comparing flight options. Here are some tips on how to best utilize it:
1. Flexible Dates: If your travel dates are flexible, use the “Flexible Dates” option to see a broader range of prices. This can help you find cheaper flights if you adjust your travel dates slightly.
2. Explore Destinations: If you’re unsure where to go, use the “Explore Destinations” feature. This allows you to see flight prices to various locations on the map based on your departure airport and travel dates.
3. Set Price Alerts: If you have a specific itinerary in mind but the prices are too high, set up a price alert. If the price changes, Google Flights will notify you via email, allowing you to book when the fare drops.
4. Use Filters: Use filters to narrow your search results based on specific preferences, such as airline, number of stops, departure/arrival times, and more. This can help you find the most suitable flight for your needs.
5. Book Directly or through Partners: Google Flights allows booking flights directly through airlines or various online travel agencies. Compare prices and consider factors like baggage fees and loyalty programs before booking.
6. Track Price Trends: Google Flights often shows price trends for specific routes. This can help you determine whether to book or wait for a price drop.
7. Check Nearby Airports: Sometimes, flying into or out of a nearby airport can result in significant savings. Use the “Nearby airports” feature to explore alternative options.
8. Consider Multi-City Trips: If you’re visiting multiple destinations, use the multi-city search option to find the best combination of flights. This can sometimes be cheaper than booking individual one-way tickets.
9. Check for Deals: Google Flights occasionally highlights deals and discounts for specific routes. Look for these promotions when searching for flights.
10. Read Reviews and Ratings: Google Flights often includes reviews and ratings for airlines and specific flights. Consider these when deciding, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the airline.
By utilizing these tips, you can make the most out of Google Flights to find the best flight options for your travel needs while saving time and money.
If you have found other methods that work for finding cheap flights, please share them in the comments. Thanks so much and happy journeys.

Hi John and Bev, I watched a video about the two of you in NZ and rent a car to road trip an island. Can you make a video to explain how to rent a car in different countries?
So worth put in the time to search for cheap flights. Flying is so expensive these days! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks!
BTW, just discovered your channel TODAY & totally binge watching your channel–you are my mentors!
I subscribe to Going…I believe I pay annually, but I only did at serious discount last year. In May I got an email about a mistake faire Air France flight from Chicago to Dublin for about $200 (actually about $220 in the end).
I booked it…if it was an error, so be it, I get a refund.
NOPE…Chicago to Dublin for $220 (economy, obviously)–AMAZING!
Question: does a fanny pack count as a carry-on? Some said it is now for at least some airlines, very recently. Also, how about the Stuffable Travel Pillow for Extra Luggage?
This never works for me, im trying to find a cheap flight to ghana leaving July 20th ot anytime affwords and coming back by Aug 15th. If anyone can help with a cheap roudtrip flight ill pay you the differences
We love your information, Travel School videos, and website! Such great information. Have been using Google flghts with the flight alerts for a while, and it's been savings for us. Didn't know about the multi city option, though. We will give it a go!!
Im retired airline..like to travel off season.get business
Rio in Oct and Nov.free flts earned it!
If you don't use points for flights what are you doing with them?
Thanks For This Video, We Like Budget Airlines too but we got busted on Tarom for being overweight. Their carry-on weight limit is 8 kg per bag. Thought I was doing good by paying 110 euro extra for carry on luggage (because ticket did not include luggage) but they may made us check it and pay another 100 euros.
I disagree with what you said about budget airlines ending up costing the same. Not so true within Europe. Especially if one only has carry-on and won’t be eating onboard. They certainly can save hundreds of €. Thx for video.
Hi Bev and John! Enjoyed your video. We tend to do similar research. In addition to Google flights we use Skyscanner and kiwi. We have the VX cc and cross-check availability to get higher multipliers when possible. We like the IHG program and tx on travel. We prefer cruises so 5x works well with the IHG card. Would be interested in crossing paths in the future. ~Richard & Angelyn Burk
Wow you guys are close to 100K subscribers! Exciting!! Really enjoy watching you both; you have inspired me to plan better for my own retirement!
Love ❤your channel . So informative
If I search for Google flights why doesn't the result say it is affiliated with google?
What is the name if the flight search app
I appreciate you two. Great information for the less traveled folks!
Do you have problems with immigration traveling with just a single ticket? I want to travel to New Zealand but I know they are very strickt
A friend of ours just told us about a nightmare she had after she booked through a third party…Including calling a number the third party gave her to reserve seats, which ended up being a scam! So many things went wrong, it took her days and many hours on the phone with her credit card company, airlines, etc. At one point she broke down in tears!!!
I heard that some countries require finger feinting to enter? I’ve also heard the opposite. I’m hoping you can answer this as you are traveling full time.
We were super Blessed to get 3 RT tickets from US to Portugal for $1700- all 3! First search was on google & then the direct Airline! Love your videos!
We got a mistake fare once by sheer luck in 2017. RT Montreal – Nice for $250! We were taking my parents so the 4 of flew RT for $1000. It's never happened again but it was certainly lovely that one time! I found it early on a Sunday morning.
I found a round trip, nonstop fare from Dulles (IAD) to Rome (FCO) on Oojo for under $1000 per passenger, including taxes/fees, a carry on and checked bag each for a trip my wife and I are taking in May. The same fare on the airline website is around $1600 but checked luggage is an extra charge. Is this too good to be true?
Thank you! Great informative.
Do you use any benefits from the AARP membership? Wondering if it's worthwhile.
Awesome! Very educational. Thank you.
You showed your big bag (50L Kelty) what is your small bag?
Awesome video, guys! Planning the trip AROUND the flights is such a good money-saving tip!
You guys are my spirit animals. Love your energy and entrepreneurship. One tip I’d add to your excellent suggestions is to look at prices of partner airlines when using GoogleFlights. For example, I’m looking at Paris flights. I typically fly Delta. However, there are many Air France flights that are cheaper and AF is a Delta partner. These AF flights are often operated by Delta. So not only would I still get my SkyMiles but the Delta service I like. Savings aren’t necessarily huge and you have to be a little flexible about the time of day you fly, but if you want to save, say, $40+/ person it’s worth considering.
Agree with all your comments. I have to book from Australia and do exactly as you describe. My upcoming stopover will be in Soel on the way to Europe. 😊
I have never tried Google Flights. Thank you very much for the info!
One weird feature of searching for round-trip tickets is that whatever airline alliance you choose for the "to" leg will shape the options for the "from" leg. (And you might not see options from other alliances that might have a better time, connection, price, etc.) So I'll search for both legs individually to see what kinds of options are out there, then see if round-trip is that much cheaper anyway, and go from there. Sometimes a "to" leg that's a bit less ideal will match up with a great "from" leg. Or individually click every possible "to" leg.
Great info
I've used Google Flights as well but I don't think it's inappropriate for you to title a "Travel Skills Video" when you only discuss ONE online flight platform. This type of one-dimensional content ("Here's our preferred website! If you know of others, please comment!") is, frankly, very unhelpful.
It makes sense to book directly with airlines, there's no middle man that wants to take his cut. This is the same for booking hotels, if not using points/credit cards. Thanks for sharing your tips.

A couple of times while booking flights within a country I've had luck with special deals. In New Zealand, Argentina, and Vietnam I got exceptional flight deals booking last minute with in-country carriers. Dollars per mile, the most expensive ticket I've ever taken was from Copenhagen to Stockholm. It was about $2 per mile. A canned soda was 5 Euros. Skipped every extra and still felt robbed by the carrier.
Great tips! One point I think you may have left out is that Google Flights (or other 3rd party sites) don't include every airline. That might mean you'd miss out on a great deal with a non-participating carrier. I believe Southwest (and maybe TAP and JetBlue) are not visible on any third party site. How do you account for that? Do you check GoogleFlights and then go to Southwest to compare flights?
