  1. I know these prices probably shock people in a good way but we were both stunned in a bad way about the stated price of beer in Vietnam and Thailand. When we traveled to Southeast Asia, 9 or so years ago and it was way cheaper, as in not even in the same ballpark. We always tell people the story of being in Hoi An. We found it touristy so we walked away from town a bit for relief and went into a restaurant advertising they were highly rated on TripAdvisor, so still frequented by tourists. We paid only 23 cents for a beer. We joked there would be no way we would find cheaper beer. We crossed the street to a bar and found 18 cent beer. There was never beer as high as $2.50 in any of the countries we visited in Southeast Asia. It made us gasp. 😮 I wonder what makes that difference. Surely beach front wouldn’t make it 10 times more. Has it changed that much in time? I guess we will find out when we go to Danang in December.

  2. Kotor, Montenegro, the Algarve region of Portugal and Krako, Poland all sound so expensive at $900 a month in rent. Not compared to the US of course but compared to southeast Asia at $180 to $250 a month it sure is. I have a 1-bedroom, fully-furnished apartment with free Internet and water for $200 a month here in Cambodia. Beer at a restaurant is 50-cents to $1.00 and a man’s haircut is $3.00. English is understood and the US dollar is used here. It’s very cheap and easy to live here short or longterm.

  3. I’ve recently discovered your videos and really love them! Every time you mention about my hometown, Türkiye, I feel so so happy 🌸 Btw, just a gentle reminder that Turkey adopted its official name to Türkiye ☺️ Lots of love from İstanbul 🥰🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Folks- thanks very much for this video. We are dying to make the part-time expat jump, though we are bound here by our 13-year-old furry family member. Until she goes to that big "farm upstate," we are limited to the planning stage, and the occasional 9-day trip to Europe. This helps us add to our list of places that we want to explore. (The "in- Schengen" and "Out-of-Shengen" info is particularly helpful, along with the prices of course) Thanks again!

  5. Hello…what is this shaggen (spelling probably wrong😂) that you keep talking about. Thank you for your great video and time you put into sharing your experience 🙏

  6. Thank you for this wonderful, insightful video. I am relocating to Hoi An next year, and will refer to the other 9 locations you mention when building my Bucket List.

  7. I have just returned to Calgary (Alberta, Canada) from a 1 month stint in that area. Spent 2 weeks visiting Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and phnom penh Cambodia with a 2 week cruise that included ports in Vietnam, Malaysia , Thailand, Singapore. Chiang Mai ia a special place for me. It was not as hot and humid and busy like Bangkok. I enjoyed that there was lots to do, see and eat. Thoroughly enjoyed variety of food including desserts. Took a Cooking Class which was fantastic. My only regret -not enough time spent there.

  8. Brian just mentioned his haircut, which is awesome. Carrie, what do you do for your hair when you're on the road – is it easy to find a place to do a color, cut and/or style? Thanks!!
