  1. My experience has been, the cheaper the flight, the longer the layover and the more stops. A flight time of 22 hours can be extended to 36 hours with more stops. If you can be flexible, it might be worth it. But, if you are on a schedule or specific time frame, it might be a bad idea.

  2. another "hack" would be to first look for a cheap flight in the general direction. Then see if maybe 3,4 airports pop up for example halfway, that have a particularly good price and are interesting destinations. Then create a new search in a new browser tab from all those airports (remember you can search from multiple airports, right?) to the final destination. Especially if that extra stop is a nice place and you have a city trip planned, why not spend a night or 2 on that destination and explore another city. This does add a lot of complexity but there are scenarios in which it works out. For example planning a trip from somewhere in germany to Porto in portugal (which does offer cheap flights but not on our dates), I found a great route with a 2 day stopover in Barcelona, Spain.

  3. But remember to factor in hotel price if airfare is cheaper by adding a day (but especially if adding 2 days), as well as rental car, airport parking, extra meals, etc., if needed. That $100 difference in airfare may not save you $$$

  4. I don’t see how you’re saving money by staying an extra one or two days to get a cheaper flight when you have to pay for extra nights at a hotel to stay longer. Sorry, the math doesn’t add up
And noticed that most international flights (premium eco or busi class) get you to the connecting airport but then they jam you on a puddle jumper for your second leg. Fly direct non stop whenever possible!

  5. Good video and I’d be keen however to get your thoughts on these online 3rd partly online booking agents you see on Google Flight and also Skyscaner. Often their prices are somewhat cheaper than what the airlines are offering. To avoid any hassles at the airport and for easy online check in, I always prefer to book with the airlines directly. But in some cases the prices quoted are a lot less and very tempting but I am very dubious of them. What’s your position on these online travel agencies and I’ll include some the prominent hotel booking sites that are also doing this? Have you made a video on this or maybe even it could be a topic for a future one?
