  1. Too bad some hotels require a non-refundable “deposit” equivalent to your stay that’s pre-paid so if you don’t show, they get to keep that money AND still rent that room. Oh, and they will overbook, so if you’re one of the last ones to check in, you may not be staying there. They do have to cover the cost at another hotel (usually) but many hotels in event areas have agreements to cover these rooms at lower costs so even if they have to walk a couple of rooms, they still make a ton of profit.

  2. Eh I've always heard from every hotel employee to never use 3rd party sites because if there is an issue they can't help you and you can't be helped unless you can actually manage to get help from 3rd party sites customer service.

It sounds like they should have pre booked it when prices were low. Being last minute is not a good thing when it comes to a vacation 🙄

  3. I got the fanciest room I’ve ever been in for $79 on Hotel Tonight. The in-shower products were Le Labo & the bar cart had large bottles – not the tiny ones.

  4. Viv, I do love you, and didn't work for me. Ended up with a Bait & Switch and being grossly and disgustingly overcharged above their regular prices at the Reaidence Inn in Manchester, Connecticut. Lied about the charge and then zapped my card after the fact. Unfortunately, buyer beware.
I want the 47.00 deal that is in the comments! How??

  5. Due to weather I missed a connecting flight home and had to get a last minute hotel. I asked the front desk about the price but then also told them what was showing on Hotel Tonight. I went through all the prompts before paying and then she compared what she could do on her end and ended up getting me a better deal than having to book through Hotel Tonight, so sometimes it’s also worth talking to them (& being nice, of course)!

  6. It's always risky booking with a 3rd party. You will probably get the worst service. If there is an option to get walked, they will walk you. If you're faced with an issue, oh well, you'll need to figure it out on your own. It's always best to book with a TA, no additional fee to you, where you get better perks and comps or book directly with the hotel.

  7. hotel tonight had me booked me in a moldy 2 star hotel room with positive reviews that had to be fake. and the price didn’t include the fees which were an extra $70! worst third party site, never again

  8. Vivian, you forgot to mention that HT is the only app where you can book and check-in late at night. with HT, even if you book a room as late as 2 AM, you can check in right away, something you typically can’t do with regular hotel bookings, where you’d usually have to wait until the standard check-in time of 2 or 3 PM. This means that if you need a place to stay immediately in the middle of the night, you’re not just reserving a room for later that day—you’re actually getting instant access for the rest of that night, which is a major advantage for last-minute or emergency situations

  9. Coming from a hotel front desk agent, whenever you use a third party. Please remember to make sure all of the information is correct, I've seen millions of times guest needing to be on hold for hours on end trying to get their reservation modified. I never recommend making third party bookings over the phone, it always somehow goes wrong

  10. Please i beg don't go to the front desk and try to haggle the price down by saying the room would be empty otherwise and you should at least make some money. You're not currying favor with the front desk, if anything that kind of language makes them want to help you less. Yes go to third parties sites, also independent hotels are more likely to work with you, and have cheaper walk-in rates. Just my own two cents as someone who use to work as a front desk manager.
